At Chocolate Journey, we believe that the key to ensuring that chocolate manufacturing is a sustainable industry is to ensure that all stakeholders engage in socially and environmentally responsible practices.
Our chocolates must pass the following 3 tests:
Fair prices Paying fair prices for chocolate ensures that the cacao has been harvested without the use of forced, child or trafficked labour, and that the farmer has the funds to engage in sustainable farming practices. We ensure that our suppliers use either fair trade certified cocoa beans, or personally source their cocoa beans from growers or co-operatives to ensure that fair practices are engaged in by the grower, and that fair prices are paid.
Organic We are concerned about the impact pesticides and chemicals will have on both the environment and consumer health in both the short and long term. We ensure that our suppliers use either certified organic ingredients in their chocolate, or have confirmed that the ingredients have been grown organically.
Palm oil free Vegetable oil in itself is not an ingredient that should be added to fine chocolate, although it may be included in some filled chocolates. The palm oil industry is currently plagued by large scale deforestation to meet current demands, which is contributing to habitat degradation and climate change. We ensure that our suppliers' products are palm oil free.
Knowing that our chocolate has passed all of the above tests, we hope that your chocolate journey is a guilt-free experience.
